Dear Members,

Such sad news around us at the moment. I read a quote from Namibian social media last week:

“the numbers have become names, and the names are of people we know”.

This past week we lost a true gentleman, a long-standing member of our Club, Chris Robinson, you showed some scars, you carried them well. Rest in Peace !!

Plettenberg Bay Country Club is our “home”, our Club and like our family; protection starts with yourself. Please take care.

Now on with some news:

We had some new score cards printed, and SEEFF had no delay in supporting this with us – THANKS SEEFF

Par 3 Competition

A great way to spend a Friday afternoon!

Please be aware that there are some morning and early afternoon rounds that we accommodate. We leave a 1hour BLOCK to create some space for the early rounds. Please try and book from after 1 so that there you do not get stuck behind the early golfers?

Until this is better supported we cannot take the timesheet for a Shotgun start unfortunately.

Been a dream of mine to get this going. It is relaxing (I hope) great fun and fast.

  • • Both you and your partner tee off.
  • • You select the best option and play ALTERNATE SHOTS FROM THERE.
  • A MINIMUM of 6 (SIX) drives per person to be used please.
  • • Handicap at 85%, combined divided by 2.
  • • Stableford points as per scorecard.

We are attaching a great role player in Plett, the PBCPA. Please come and join us in showing our appreciation, and support to these guys and girls.

A little extra will go a long way in equipping these guys.

TOTAL Beacon Isle have been a donation center for them. The donations received have been incredible,

Thanks Robbie.

Course News.

Our greens and fairways are in beautiful condition, our bunkers consistent and the rough not out of control.

TWO requests from The Captain:

Please help with divots? We are seeing some really big divots not filled, and as much as we can assume where the cause is, we ask that you urge the players on our great course to fill their divots.

Please do not buy golf balls on the course.

Our PRO SHOP goes to great lengths to buy and sanitize the balls that they present to us.

Buying golf balls on the course is not only a health risk, but also leads to a security concern, we have spotted some “unwanted” characters moving around our course and the buying of balls only encourages the practice. You will agree that a safe environment is a happier place.

Our Tees are starting to show some signs of recovery. We are doing a lot of work on the course at the moment, rebuilding some tees and levelling and sodding others.

Our Greenkeeper has resodded the first and should be done by week ending 16 July. David insisted that our FIRST TEE be in the best condition possible. Thanks David!!

The 2nd Top and middle tees have been widened. It really looks great.

The BLUE TEES on 3 have settled and are back in play.

The 7th Tee was resodded and back in play within 3 weeks.

The 15th is back in operation. THE BLUE tee going to get some TLC in weeks to come.

You will notice some work on the right of 14. We are preparing that area as a nursery. The area in the “bowl” behind the 15th Green has presented the best sods so far.

The 14th RED and BLUE TEEs are about to get a treatment as well. These tees have not had a proper kikuyu treatment in 12 years.

The area left of 16th green will get some good topdressing and mulch and will recover well.

Soil temperatures are low at the moment, so growth is minimal but we are preparing for a great course from Spring.

The treatment of the weeds on 7th will start as soon as the soil temperature rises. Sadly the treatment has no effect in these low temperatures.

A week with some real rain expected. Hold on to your hats.

Stay warm, stay safe. Our work is ongoing to keep improving the experience.

Wear your mask and maintain the social distance around the clubhouse

See you out there.

Nico Westraat

Well done to Richie Dunn on drawing Justin Thomas in our Pro shop PGA draw!
