Hi All

Well the chilly mornings and evenings have arrived but we still have glorious weather for golf and the course is in great condition.

Our new maintenance team, MGCM are doing a fantastic job and all who visit the course have been amazed at the transformation under the new team. Aside from daily maintenance and improvement to the course condition we are, together with MGCM, looking at various items needing attention including 11th Dam, Cart Paths, 14th missing Oaks, additional Cart storage, and a Greens nursery.

I’m sure you all read Matthew Hoines (our new Greenkeeper) report. His passion for golf and golf course maintenance is a pleasure. You will often see him around the course with the staff making sure all is in fine form.

Important dates to diarise:

  • Captains Chicken Challenge Friday 27th May
Our monthly Greensomes challenge. The last event was cancelled due to poor weather. A great fun event that needs more support. Fantastic hampers up for grabs from our sponsor Eden Chickens. Note this is attendance prize giving.
  • Thirst DayThursday 2nd June
The Tops Beacon Isle First Thursday of every month. We missed our May “Par Tee” as our sponsor, Duncan Brown, was away, and although he will be away again for June he has arranged some very capable stand ins in Nic Bryant & Tyrone Yates. June will be a double up so we will be giving away 12 prizes not to mention the lucky draw, fantastic food, and great music.  So put on your dancing shoes and warm winter gear and come heat up the “Par Tee”. Individual Stableford.  Attendance prize giving.
  • Par 3 – Friday 10th June
Our regular monthly Par 3 competition once again generously sponsored by Kwikspar/Tops Beacon Isle.
Note this is attendance prize giving.
  • Investec Day Wednesday 15th June
Our second of 4 once a month Wednesdays to be sponsored by Investec. Note this is attendance prize giving.

Gents League

Our boys have had two games so far and are struggling to get going:
23rd April – Plett 1 beat Simola. Plett 2 lost to Knysna 1
7th May – Plett 1 lost to Knysna 1. Plett 2 lost to Goose Valley 2

Still five more rounds to go. I’m sure our teams will do us proud.

Prize Giving

Prize giving is in full swing on competition days (Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday). It would be great to see all players staying to support the club and to congratulate the daily winners. I’ll make sure we have wood for the fireplace.

Golf Etiquette

We are noticing a lot of unrepaired pitch marks on the greens, and divots on the fairways – please ensure you have a sandbag/bottle and take those few seconds to attend to these repairs.

Our regular request that all players keep up with the 4 ball ahead of them not in front of the 4 ball behind them always stands

New T Box Signage

Completion is planned for end May 2022. These have added some clearer indication of the hole layouts and have been well sponsored by some local businesses. I thank them for their support and request you support them.

Remember “The most important shot in golf is the next one” – Ben Hogan

Happy Golfing
